INFO

See you on the other side! is a site-specific social sculpture placed between an art institution and a playground situated around the neighbourhood of Holland Spoor in The Hague. When walking around the playground where art institution De Helena (a former high school now hosting artist-run gallery Billytown and artist initiative Stichting Ruimtevaart) is located, I sensed a 'fourth wall'. This fourth wall seemed to separate the building from the neighbourhood because of both social and cultural distance.

To connect both worlds, I decided to make a functional and recognisable replica of one of the swings from the playground. In this way, something was set in motion, metaphorically swinging the neighbourhood over the imaginative fourth wall inside De Helena and swinging the art audience to the playground. See you on the other side! enabled essential human encounters by the use of replication, recognisability, and representation. The encounters and shared stories should be seen as 'the work' more than the object itself.
